How it Works
Using the ice as a stressor we get the opportunity to train our response to each and every experience in it, taking those learnings into every day life
Setting an Intention
Surrendering
Gaining Control of Your Breath
You learn to own your breath and breathe with purpose, all while being provided with stimulus.
Biomechanical
We go from upper chest to breathing deep
Biochemical
We breathe light and through the nose
Cadence
We breathe slow
With this foundation of breathing light, slow and being provided with a stimulus,
we are able to take these skills into every day life, so powerful and effective!
Regular ice baths can help improve many aspects of your life and performance.
Reduce Stress Level
One of the major benefits of the ice is the ability to reduce allostatic load (your baseline stress level). Layering more good stress into our lives strengthens our ability to cope with the other forms of stress. The ability of recalibrating gained by training a stressor enables us to more effectively regulate & control our stress response to the world as challenges arise
Balanced Mindset
Getting into cold stimulates numerous chemicals in the brain, however, one of more importance is that of Norepinephrine which is a neurotransmitter that amongst other things is responsible for regulating attention, focus & mood.
Partaking in regular cold therapy has been shown to increase Norepinephrine levels in the blood by530% which may ultimately result in a happier, more focused & energised individual on top of the habits, dedication, confidence, and so on the list is huge and be experienced. Allowing you to show up far more present and productive to self, relationships, work or performance
Stimulates Fat Loss Through Thermogenesis
There are two types of fat in the body-unhealthy fat that accumulates where we don’t want it (White Fat) & beneficial fat (Brown Fat).
Brown fat, also called brown adipose tissue, is a special type of body fat that is turned on (activated) when you get cold. Brown fat produces heat to help maintain your body temperature in cold conditions. Brown fat contains many more mitochondria than white fat.
The practise of ice baths stimulates the brown fat to produce heat which increases your metabolic rate &thus results in greater caloric burning.
Recovery
Sporting teams and athletes have used cold therapy for recovery and soreness for decades.
The cold water constricts your blood vessels, which slows blood flow and relieves some of that swelling and soreness you feel in your muscles after a long run or a big workout.
(disclaimer – If increased hypertrophy is desired it is recommended not to partake in cold exposure directly after training as you require inflammation and cell swelling for muscle growth)
